BBC Romania to close down

The Romanian section of BBC World Service will close as of 1 August. BBC Romania has over 30 employees in its two offices in London and Bucharest, who could receive compensation for the time remaining to the end of this year.

BBC World Service has been broadcasting 15-minute broadcasts in Romania since 1939, and opened offices in Bucharest and Chisinau in 1989. BBC radio was officially launched in Bucharest in 2005.
