Calin Popescu Tariceanu tries to convince Voestalpine to invest in Romania

Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu talked yesterday in Linz with Austrian Voestalpine steel group representatives, to convince them to invest in Romania. The company expressed interest in building a metallurgy plant along the Black Sea, an investment estimated to be worth some €5.5 million.

is competing with for this plant. Voestalpine representatives said a decision regarding the plant's location will be made in the second half of 2008. The delegation negotiating with is led by Karl Heider, Voestalpine Project Manager.

According to market sources, the Austrian delegation began negotiations with the Romanian side early this year, and officials involved include Constanta's Mayor, Radu Mazare. Sources cited by Money Channel say 's chances would increase if Mercedes, one of Voestalpine's main clients, opens a production unit in .
