Ceramica to triple brick production following €4 mln investment

The Ceramica brick producer, based in the northeastern city of Iasi, is to invest €24 million in the coming two years to triple its production capacity, amid high demand for construction materials and a significant number of real estate projects planned or under construction.

“The development of the residential sector and annual growth of the average constructed area will lead to a 10 percent rise in consumption of bricks in the next five years,” said the company’s General Manager, Iulian Mangalagiu. As of 2009, Ceramica will cover the brick demand in the eastern Romanian Moldavia region, added Mangalagiu.

The company’s presently has an annual production capacity of 160,000 cubic meters, to be expanded to 180,000 cubic meters this year, and to 460,000 cubic meters by the end of 2009.
Ceramica posted some €14 million in turnover in 2007, some 40 percent higher year-on-year. The company’s net profit doubled, to €3.8 mln. The company targets €17 mln worth of business and €3 mln in profit in 2008. The company is controlled by Hungarian group Ugirofin, which owns a 65.88 percent share.

Ceramica’s main competitors are Wienerberger and Siceram.
