Cosmote users up 110% in H1 2008

Cosmote Romania, the third-largest telecom operator on the local market in terms of clients, could post some 4.6 million users for the first half of 2008, 110 percent higher than in H1 2007, according to market sources for Business Standard.

The ratio of postpaid card users (subscriptions) amounts to 20 percent of total clients, compared to 16 percent in H1 2007, sources added.

Some 25 million active mobile phone cards are currently active on the local market, with Cosmote Romania securing some 18 percent of the market. Main competitors on the mobile phone services segment are Orange and Vodafone .

In the second quarter of 2008, Cosmote Romania secured some 400,000 clients, 35 percent lower than in Q1.

The operator posted €53.2 million in income in Q1, 94 percent higher than in the same period last year, according to the financial report of Greek OTE Group, the operator’s main shareholder.
