Advertising markets in Central and Eastern European countries will register significant drops in 2009 and 2010, according to the latest report on the media market, compiled by Erste Group Research.
Thus, Erste analysts are forwarding two scenarios, an initial optimistic one, and a negative one, regarding the evolution of the Romanian advertising market. The first version forecasts that Romania will register the lowest drop in 2009 in its advertising market, of 3.4 percent, compared to countries in the region. Erste estimates that the advertising market will fall six percent in the Czech Republic, 7.3 percent in Croatia, 3.5 percent in Poland, while Ukraine will register the sharpest drop, of 15 percent.
The pessimistic scenario includes a decline of 6.3 percent in the Romanian advertising market, 8.5 percent in the Czech Republic, 9.2 percent in Croatia, 5.8 percent in Poland, and 24.4 percent in Ukraine.
The most attractive media sector continues to be the internet, followed by television. Regarding the value of the local advertising market, Erste analysts estimate this amounted to €550 million last year and will slide to €534 mln in 2009.
