Furniture producer and retailer Mobexpert, leader of the local market, is facing severe personnel turnover. In the past few years, it rose ten times, which implies additional recruiting and training costs.
"The entire furniture industry is facing personnel problems," said the company's President, Dan Sucu. If the annual personnel turnover was of 30-40 employees for a factory with 500 workers, it rose to 30-40 employees per month, Sucu said. "They come, then they go to Spain and Italy. One cannot fight that," he added.
The personnel deficit is only related to the production segment, while ther turnover is lower on the retial segment.
Several furniture producers complained about personnel turnover inthe past year. Thus, Silvarom Bucuretsti currently has 400 employees, from 700 employees last summer. Company officials say workers migrate to other industries, such as constructions, or go to work abroad, where salaries are higher. Alprom Pitesti also lost 400 employees, as most of them left the country, according to the company's Manager, Dumitru Petcu.
According to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the number of employees in the furniture industry dropped to 87,400 this January, from 94,200 in January 2006 and 90,400 in January 2007.
