Scandia Romana, one of the major local canned food producers, posted €50 million in turnover in 2007, 9 percent higher year-on-year.
Canned meat, especially pate, made up some 90 percent of Scandia’s sales. The company’s “Traditii” brand and two new ham products, Augusta and Paltinis, also contributed to higher sales, according to company data.
The local pate market is worth some €55 mln, according to producers. Scandia’s main competitors are Orkla Foods, Hame and Mandy Foods. Scandia has a 62 percent share, in terms of value, of the total canned meat market.
