The crisis caused a €1 bln drop in the Romanian car industry

The financial crisis, which is seriously affecting the auto market, has led to a drop of some €1 billion in the local car industry in the past three months, compared to estimates made in October by officials of the Association of Automotive Manufacturers of Romania (ACAROM).

According to data made public yesterday by this association, the value of net sales registered by the Romanian auto industry in 2008 amounted to €10.7 bln, down seven percent from the €11.5 level estimated for 2008 in October, before the beginning of the crisis.

The number of employees working in the auto industry rose by an annual 12.4 percent in 2008, to 175,530, according to ACAROM.
