Higher export growth, compared to imports, was registered in the first four months of 2008, but did not prevent the trade deficit to widen by 14.36 percent, up to €6.9 billion.
In spite of the advance of growth of exports, Romania is still importing more than it sells abroad.
According to preliminary data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), exports totaled €2.73 bln in April, while imports amounted to €4.75 bln.
Compared to April 2007, exports rose 37.5 percent for RON values and 25.1 percent in euro, while compared to March 2008, both imports and exports were idle.
