However, company officials said that the operator registered growth on all business segments in this year’s first two months. The company plans to invest €52 million in 2009, of which some €30 mln in its network, and the remainder in various technological services.

“Last year, the television clients who exited our portfolio were those who chose another operator, but this year, the trend is for some to return, while others choose to migrate from analog to digital within UPC. Our client base registered an increase of up to 1.3 million clients and 1.64 million revenue generating lines, at mid-February,” the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of UPC Romania, Severina Pascu, told Business Standard.

The number of subscribers to digital cable television services nearly tripled last year, to 109,000. On the landline phone segment, the operator gained some 28,000 new clients, meaning a 28.8 percent growth rate, to 124,200 subscribers.

UPC’s main competitor locally is RCS&RDS, with 1.35 mln clients on the cable television segment, 1.1 mln clients on the satellite television segment, and over 1.2 mln subscribers to the company’s landline phone services.
