Murfatlar shareholders roll €334 million

The largest share of the business comes from Signus Romania Distributions, producer of soft and alcoholic drinks, who took over Biborteni soft drinks and mineral water producer two years ago. Signus Romania Distributions had a turnover of €119.51 mln last year, and losses up to €8.6 mln.

Euro Trade Invest, dealing with food and beverages distribution, which also owned 18 duty-free shops until January 1, 2007, posted gross profits worth €770,000 and business amounting to €126.39 mln.

Murfatlar had €36 mln in turnover in 2006, and the company estimates to increase the business up to €42 mln, according to Murfatlar’s Brand Manager, Daniel Negrescu. Murfatlar has a 30 percent share of the local wine market. Company officials estimate that this year’s production will be similar to that of 2006, some 16 mln liters of wine, but the quality will be better because of drought and high temperatures.

Meet processor Principal Company posted €15 mln. worth of business last year. Company officials estimate a double turnover, up to €30 mln for 2007. Principal Company is producing cold meat brands Salonta, Principal and Matache Macelarul and is market leader for dry-cold meats.

Spirits producer Euroavipo’s business dropped 14 percent in 2006 to €53 mln, down from the €60.5 mln posted in 2005. The company produces white and colored spirits (Hanu Ars, Unirea), vodka (Sankt Petersburg) and liqueur (Sao).
