New taxation rules for EU companies in Romania

Foreign companies based in the European Union (EU) will pay a 10 percent tax on dividends cashed from Romanian companies as of 2009, according to a decision to modify the fiscal code.

EU companies now pay a 16 percent tax, which is discriminatory towards foreign companies. The new law does not apply to dividends paid to individuals, which will continue to be taxed at 16 percent.
