A new trade union alliance for civil servants, whose first decision is a strike on 5 October

For the first time in the past 20 years, teachers, physicians, public clerks, employees working in city halls, penitentiaries, statistics, and social security have gathered in a trade union alliance, for civil servants, which threatens to go as far as boycotting the presidential elections, due to the indecision of the government on the salary grid, although this piece of legislation is imposed on Romania by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

“After spending months trying to negotiate the salary grids and coefficients at the Ministry of Labor, everything was changed and recalculated, so that most civil servants are at the bottom of the grid, with the lowest salaries. If the law is applied in its current form, education and health will be the sectors most affected,” said the Vice President of the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education, Simion Hancescu.
