The new approach is in response to the changes which occurred in the economic climate, as sales on the consumer segment dropped and opportunities in the business area appeared, generated by the need of companies to restructure and cut costs.
“Sales that were registered before the crisis are fond memories. Believing that one can recover or that those times will return is a utopia. For this year, we plan to develop the partner network and increase their abilities. The focus for the immediate future on the printing division is on medium-sized models in terms of printing and on colour models, combined with ways of cutting costs for professional printing as well,” Violeta Elena Hostea, Customer&Channel Marketing Manager of Canon Romania, told Business Standard.
The local office equipment industry registered its worst evolution in the first quarter of this year, according to a report by the GfK Romania analysis and research company. With a value of €14 million in the first quarter, this segment marked a sharp decline, of 44.9 percent year-on-year, and the transition to multifunctional printers did not compensate for the steep drop in printer sales.
The value of expenses allocated for IT in Romania is estimated this year at $100 (€71.74) per capita, down 15.25 percent compared to $118 (€84.66), in Q1 2008, said Laurentiu Popescu, Country Manager of the International Data Corporation (IDC) research and consultancy in the IT field company.
