The factory should begin activity at the end of September, a few months later than initially planned, the month of April. “There were two main reasons for this delay: a series of construction that was not ready on time and, given the fact that we brought the newest technologies in Brasov, we had to change the initial project and get additional approvals,” Kronospan’s Communication Manager, Oana Bodea, told Business Standard.
Kronospan enters the construction material market with the OSB boards, a new material, with no tradition on the local market, but which has, besides the advantage of a lower cost, benefits related to reducing the time allocated for the construction, and raises the degree of thermal insulation.
“Romanians began to be increasingly more interested in such things, and this can be noticed including in OSB board sales. Practically speaking, the market doubled between 2006 and 2007, but consumption is still far from the value registered in Western Europe or the United States and Canada,” Bodea added.
Kronospan’s investment in the Brasov factory will create 500 jobs directly and, according to estimates, 3,000 jobs indirectly. At present, the factory has 250 employees and is in full recruitment process, as it plans to hire a further 250 people when it begins production.
