A&D Pharma reports net income worth €425 mln in 2007

Growth reported by A&D Pharma is 10 percentage points higher than general growth on the Romanian pharmaceutical market, of 17.35 percent, for a total of €1.825 billion in 2007, according to the Cegedim market research company.

The unaudited net income registered by Mediplus rose 26 percent year-on-year, to some €364 mln, while Sensiblu’s turnover increased 36 percent compared to 2006, to some €122 mln.

The accelerated depreciation of the leu in the second half of 2007 is expected to have a negative impact on the company’s annual financial results and on its capacity to generate profit due to debts the group has in euro, says a company communique.

“In 2007 we consolidated our market position and industry trends continue be in our favor.  Nevertheless, the depreciation of the national currency to the euro impacted negatively on us, with a negative effect on operational costs and financial results due to the acquisition of imported products and the fact that local market regulatory authorities have not raised prices on drugs based on the increase in the foreign currency exchange rate,” said Dragos Dinu, CEO of A&D Pharma.

Sensiblu is the largest Romanian pharmaceutical chain, with 221 units, while Mediplus has a 17.9 percent local distribution market share.  Principal competitors are Fildas, Farmexim, Relad and Farmexpert.
