A declining market forces companies to modify their strategies

Other negative aspects found in the calculations of companies on the Romanian hardware market include a drop in the interest of consumers for IT products, low demand from the retail sector, and the suspension of many government and private projects.

To better meet market demands, companies are considering reorganization, a stricter control of costs, and faster stock turnover. Meanwhile, some companies have reassessed their businesses, and directed themselves towards other business segments.

Dell, one of the top three PC producers, with 100,000 notebooks and desktops delivered to the Romanian market in 2008, according to the IDC market research company, has recently reorganized the company’s activity into four major divisions: large companies, the public sector, small companies, and individuals, in an attempt to adapt to market conditions.

“In the current economic context, we are carefully following the evolution of demand, and are focusing on both management of costs and developing certain products and services to simplify exploitation and help increase the productivity of IT departments,” Mihai Guran, the company’s Country Manager for Romania and Bulgaria, told Business Standard.
