“In general, the Southeastern European region is the most interesting for the expansion of Romanian companies. However, we believe there is also increasing interest in transactions in other regions, such as Western Europe and Ukraine,” according to a statement for Business Standard by Bogdan Bleciu, Manager of A.T. Kearney Romania. Bleciu went on to say that the interest of Romanian companies in the countries of Southeastern Europe (especially Bulgaria and Serbia) is mostly due to location, which simplifies the integration and coordination process, and also on the similarity of general business environment, making competition easier than in Western Europe.
“Although there is interest on the part of many Romanian companies in expanding regionally, most of the time this is done through “greenfield” investments, namely organic, and very rarely through acquisitions. However, the situation is similar in neighboring countries, and only Russian companies have managed to generate a relevant volume of acquisitions,” added Bleciu.
