Actavis business 10% over expectations

Last year’s local drug market rose by 10 percent, according to the Cegedim market research company. Actavis took over the Sindan cancer drug factory in March 2006, in a transaction worth €147.5 mln.

Actavis is the major exporter of drugs from Romania, with the volume of exports last year at €15 mln. In the medium and long-term, exports will become the priority segment for the business, with the company’s objective to have exports make up 50 percent of turnover in the coming years.

In Romania, Actavis has 320 employees, of which one third in its sales force.

The company, founded in 1956, is one of the top six international producers of generic drugs. The group has 21 production units in 14 states around the world: Italy, US, UK, Malta, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Russia, Romania, China, India, Indonesia, Iceland and Norway. Since 1999 and until now, Actavis has acquired 25 pharmaceutical companies.
