Adria, Aer Lingus and SkyEurope in talks to operate from Otopeni

Aer Lingus, which has joined the low-cost airlines, has been advertising flights from Dublin to Bucharest on its website since last year, while Adria Airways is due to introduce a flight from Ljubljana to Bucharest. Flights to Bucharest from Ljubljana are presently operated by Austrian Airlines, Czech airline CSA, and Hungary’s Malev.

SkyEurope, which operates flights to Vienna, plans to change its development strategy, focusing on Austrian and Romanian business people. Currently, only commercial airlines fly into Henri Coanda International Airport, while low-cost airlines operate from Aurel Vlaicu International Airport (Baneasa), due to lower costs.

Henri Coanda International Airport will invest some €25 million to develop and modernize international and domestic departure and arrival terminals, the official lounge and the 12,000 square meter parking lot. A new passenger terminal will also be constructed, as will a cargo platform and a high-tech park to develop air traffic control activities.

Airport officials estimated turnover of €70.5 million in 2007, 3-4 percent higher than last year, with passenger traffic up to 6.25 million, 25 percent higher year-on-year.
