Airports near Bucharest Baneasa and Otopeni to keep tariffs, rents at last year’s level

The largest airport in Romania, Henri Coanda or Otopeni, plans to hold the current flights and also draw other operators, company representatives told NewsIn. Another aim is to keep creating jobs and prop the economy in the area.

This airport registered an 11.64 percent advance in the number of passengers last year over 2007, to more than 5 million people. Also, a flight took off from here every seven minutes, which is a 7.24 percent growth over the previous year.

The other airport close to Bucharest, Baneasa, where most low-cost companies take off from, pledged tariffs will be kept at the past year’s level, according to general director, Stefan Mladin.

Some 1.8 million people flew from here in 2008, double over 2007. In the first two months this year the ascendant trend continued, the number of passengers registering an 18 percent increase year-on-year.
