By the end of 2008, the Credit Office is to implement a scoring system for bank clients for which it has records. This system will be more complete than the scoring systems of individual banks, as this will provide information on clients who have taken out loans from several banks, Epure said.
The new scoring system grade all clients, helping lenders to decide whether to grant a new loan for a certain client.
The office is currently receiving data from 28 banks, with market share on loan segments totaling 98.5 percent. Of those banks, 23 receive positive and negative information on clients. The Credit Office also receives data from eight non-banking lending institutions and two leasing companies.
The Romanian Banking Association (ARB) could ask authorities to allow service providers, especially mobile services providers, to provide information on their clients to the Credit Office, according to ARB President, Radu Gratian Ghetea.
