Cristian Colteanu, the new GE’s manager for Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova, is 56 and is acting as Romania’s Ambassador to Italy since 2003. During 2001 - 2003, he was a State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Earlier, in 2000, he was the sole shareholder of the business management and consultancy company Delta Construct SRL. Before that, Colteanu was Ansaldo Italia’s representative to Bucharest (1986 - 2000). Ansaldo Italia is one of the entrepreneurs at Cernavoda nuclear power plant.
The current CEO for South Eastern Europe, Dan Ionescu, will retire and start his own business. “I will retire from GE, after 23 years of activity. GE’s presence in South-Eastern Europe registered the highest growth, while GE Romania has now some 1,400 employees and investments worth €400 million in the last two years alone,” Ionescu told Business Standard. “The company I am establishing will provide business consultancy and mediation, real estate development, and financing,” he added.
GE has wide range of operations, covering real estate, media, energy and medical services as well as aeronautics industry and financial services. GE’s profits for 2006 amounted to $20.8 billion, with $163 billion in net sales, and net assets worth $697 billion.
