Analysts: Inflation up to 7 percent in 2007

In the first 11 months of 2007, inflation reached 5.89 percent, due to higher prices for foodstuffs (9.39 percent year-on-year) and services (7.32 percent).
For the whole of 2007, analysts estimate that inflation is likely to reach 7 percent, exceeding the revised target of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) of 5.7 percent, +/- one percentage point, and estimates by the National Prognosis Commission (CNP), of 6 percent.

For 2008, analysts are forecasting a 5-5.5 percent overall increase in inflation, with a higher growth pace in the first half of the year, and a slowdown in the second half.
