Asesoft targets 22.5% of hard drive market

Asesoft Distribution, activating on the domestic IT distribution market, expects a 22.5 percent market quota for 2007, up 2.5 percent year-on-year. The software company signed a partnership protocol in May with one of the leading hard drive producers, Western Digital (WD), to distribute the American company’s products in Romania.

“We expect to sell 180,000 units this year, on a market estimated at some 800,000 units for 2007,” said Iulian Stanciu, General Manager for Asesoft Distribution. According to the company, the domestic hard disk market will exceed $50 million (some €37.5 million), with a 20-25 percent growth rate this year. “WD currently covers 55 percent of the domestic market,” said Daniel Mauerhofer, Western Digital PR Manager for South Eastern Europe.

“The mobile user segment is increasing very rapidly. At present, external storage is the best possible solution for this type of user if we consider notebook storage capacity, which is several times lower than that of desktops,” added Stanciu. The company estimates a 30 percent increase in turnover this year, of some $95 million, compared $72.2 million year-on-year. “For 2008, the growth rate will be about 40-50 percent,” Asesoft Distribution’s General Manager said.
