“I estimate that Romania’s shipbuilding industry will deliver orders worth some €700 million in 2008, 5 percent more than in 2007,” said Gelu Stan, General Manager of Damen Galati shipyard and head of the Romania’s Anconav association of ship builders.
In 2006 Romania was third in terms of orders delivered, worth €570 mln. The Romanian market is dominated by international producers Aker Yards, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Damen.
Daewoo Mangalia, controlled by Daewoo Shipbuilding, owns contracts worth some €1.4 bln by 2011.
