Astra Passenger Coaches hopes Egypt will help it overcome the crisis

“We will finalize negotiations in about three months, and we will begin production next year. The contract will probably spread on two-three years. Actually, we are tightening relations we had with Egypt three years ago, when we signed a contract for one and a half years,” Blidar told Business Standard. A railway car costs between €840,000 and €950,000, which means that the value of the contract would amount to some €84-95 million.

The company official said that the first four months of this year “have gone increasingly worse,” from the point of view of beneficiaries, which either cut their orders or postponed them. According to the businessman, orders for the second quarter of 2009 have partially been put off for the final quarter of this year, which “causes problems” to the company.

The company’s annual production is worth some RON 200 million (some €50 mln), of which 42 percent is exported. “In 2009, we will have a 30 percent drop in production, at best. We may receive some orders in this year’s second half,” Blidar added.
