“Due to investments worth some €1.5 million, we were able to increase the production capacity,” said Valer Blidar, the company’s majority shareholder.
Astra currently exports 200 train cars to Iran, as part of a three-year contract worth some €150 million, and it was winner at an auction to build 200 train cars for CFR Calatori railway transport company.
The company’s turnover could increase by some 20 percent this year, to about €80 million. Astra is the only company in Romania that builds train cars that are able to reach a speed of 200 kilometers per hour. Its main competitor is Remarul Pascani, owned by Grampet group.
Among Astra’s partners for this year are CFR Calatori and RAJA. The company will build 34 new train cars worth €33 million for CFR Calatori. Astra plans to build a tram for the Romanian market next year.
