Eastern European countries have become increasingly more important for hardware sales. By opening a division in Romania, Asus demonstrates that Romania is a mature and important market,” said Liviu Marica, PR&Marketing Manager of Asustek Computer for Romania and Bulgaria in a statement for Business Standard.

Asus sold products worth €81.6 million last year in Romania. Its sales included 34,000 notebooks, at an average price of €600, and it estimates that it will sell 60,000 notebooks in 2008.

Main distributors of Asus in Romania are RHS Company, K-Tech Electronics, Romsoft and Tornado. Marica added that Asus will not change its distribution network.

Asus’ main competitors are Acer, Dell and Fujitsu Siemens.
