Of the total, some €2.4 million were made by Eee PC laptop sales. The company sold 27,500 notebooks by the end of June, of which 9,500 were Eee PC laptops.
“Besides the Eee PC brand, Asus delivered some 8,000 notebooks to Romania in the second quarter, with a sales value of €4 million,” according to a statement for Business Standard by the company’s Sales Manager, Alex Huang.
Q1 sales growth was as much as 180 percent compared to January-March 2007. However, company officials did not provide the exact value.
Asus has a 10 percent share of the Romanian market and plans to double its sales this year, up to some 60,000 notebooks, after opening a branch in Romania.
The company’s main competitors are Acer, Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Fujitsu-Siemens Computer. This year’s local notebook market is estimated at some €300 million and 500,000 units, double year-on-year.
