The estimate is based on operations of car manufacturers and car parts producers.
“Absolutely all Dacia suppliers are working at full speed and Ford suppliers will also start working shortly. However, car parts producers that work exclusively for foreign companies registered a 25 percent drop in orders,” ACAROM representatives said.
Dacia is the largest car maker locally, and is controlled by French Renault group. U.S. Ford giant acquired local Automobile Craiova manufacturer, and is set to begin production soon.
“Given that we can only clearly foresee the market evolution until August, overall industry turnover will amount to a mere 90 percent compared to last year, or to 80 percent, in a worst-case scenario,” ACAROM officials added.
The overall auto industry, with some 136,000 employees, makes up some 10 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product and some 6 percent of all industry operations.
