However, the annual growth rate was lower last December (17.6 percent) compared to the previous month, when this rose 21.4 percent.
In spite of last year’s salary hikes, this year brings grimmer perspectives, due to the international economic crisis. Most analysts say the increase in salaries for public servants could be significantly lower, if any. Prime Minister Emil Boc recently said a wage increase can only be discussed after 15 April, provided the economic situation allows this. He added that public servants will not even have their salaries indexed to inflation, as the government had recently promised.
