Increased costs for credit clients will happen in two months, while for deposits, banks interested in increasing liquidity could announce changes effective immediately. The increase in costs for lei-denominated loans could be higher at certain banks. There is a risk that clients might opt for foreign currency-denominated loans.
Ionut Dumitru, Chief Analyst at Raiffeisen Bank, said that the rise in interest percentage will depend on bank policies, and that the one percent rise in key interest was not reflected in the market.
BRD Group Societe Generale’s Chief Economist, Florian Libocor, believes that the measure could be advantageous for foreign currency-denominated loans. Bancpost was the first bank to increase interest rates by 1.10 percentage points.
