The Board of Directors of the Romanian Bank Association (ARB) unanimously supports the introducing of service suppliers, such as mobile service companies, in the database of the Credit Office, according to ARB President Radu Gratian Ghetea.
The move would grant lenders access to information regarding clients of service providers with payment arrears. The Credit Office currently gathers data on bank clients, so lenders can decide whether to grant loans on the basis of a client payment history.
Currently, service providers are not allowed to send data to the Credit Office, following a decision by the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP). Ghetea said he disagrees with this decision and with other ANSPDCP rulings, such as maintaining client information for four years instead of five in the Credit Office database, and notifying clients within 15 days that their information is being introduced into the office's database.
