Bar codes: a business worth €50 mln

Quenzer indicated that the market leaders are Logicode and Novensys. Bar codes were introduced to Romania in 1993. The system is managed by Global Standard One, member of GS1 Europe and GS1 Global organizations.

Ciprian Iosep, President of GS1, said that there are over two million food and non-food products for which companies have applied for and received a bar code prefix. Of the 3,500 companies that received bar codes in the past 15 years, only 2,000 are still active.

Bar codes are the best known universal product identification system, based on an open standard, which allows recognition of a certain code anywhere in the world.
