BCR's Executive Vice President resigns

His resignation will be effective as of August 1.  Bunea coordinated BCR's Capital Markets Department, after a similar stint at BRD Groupe Société Générale.

"Bunea resigned at the same time as his wife, who works for BCR Asigurari (the bank's insurance division). It is very possible that both of them have had an offer from another company," sources within the bank said. Contacted by Business Standard, the presidents of the top five local banks have denied Bunea has been negotiating a position within their banks.

"I heard about Bunea's resignation as Vice President, but I am unaware of his plans. However, these are certainly  not related to UniCredit Tiriac," Dan Pascariu, Chairman of UniCredit Tiriac's Board of Directors, told Business Standard.

Officials of Raiffeisen Bank said the institution has not made Bunea any offer, nor did BRD officials confirm a possible comeback of their former Vice President.

Rumors on the market yesterday indicated that Bunea was to be employed by Millennium Bank, but Portuguese bank officials have strongly denied this. "It has became a custom for everybody to think that whenever a banker leaves office he will come to us. We are not allowed to employ BCR staff for two years," Millennium Romania Vice President, Dan Sandu, said. BCR sources have linked Bunea's resignation with the bank's integration program within the Austrian Erste Group, which bought the commercial bank in late 2005 for €3.75 billion. Bunea was allegedly supposed to be put in charge of operations of which he did not approve .

BCR is currently undergoing a large integration and development program (IDP), targeting all the bank's operations. The program includes 40 projects to be finalized by mid-2008.
