“Considering the global economic crisis and the general drop in consumption, we would not be realistic is we expected extraordinary results. The current situation, when related to initial estimates, means stagnation, if not a setback,” said Mihai Borze, Central and Eastern Europe Managing Director of BenQ Austria.
Borze explained that, in Romania, where consumption is based more on the capacity of having access to loans than on the consumer’s effective solvency, the effects are felt stronger than on mature markets. “The purchasing power, the consumption capacity and, from our point of view, sales are being directly affected. Because the user is all of a sudden realizing that, without the help of lenders, his purchasing power is much lower than he expected,” added the BenQ official.
The company representative said the effects of the crisis will be fully felt in Romania at the beginning of 2009. Products which are not essential, including electronics and IT products, from LCD monitors and photo cameras, will be most affected.
BenQ’s main competitors on the local market are Panasonic, Sony, FujiFilm, Olympus, Canon, LG, Dell, and Samsung.
