"Best Distribution's net sales increased mainly due to the general development of the market, of store chains, of a rise in the standard of living in Romania, and of the appreciation of the leu against the euro, which allowed prices to fall by up to 20 percent on various market segments," Stegaru told Business Standard.
Company officials believe another explanation for Best Distribution's evolution is the attraction to and purchase of games and next generation gaming consoles, as well as massive new launches, and increased communication about online games.
"The profitability of the Romanian game market follows the trends of developed markets, where lower markups are followed by a rise in volume," added Mike Stegaru.
The best sold games in H1 2007 are World of Warcraft, The Sims 2, Command&Conquer 3, FIFA 07, Need for Speed Carbon, Ice Age 2, Civilisation IV, and The Da Vinci Code, according to Best Distribution officials. The company sold over 10,000 units of its top-selling product in the first six months of 2007, for which consumers spent more than €250,000.
The value of the Romanian game market is estimated at seven million euros in 2007, a 15-30 percent increase year-on-year, according to analysts in this field.
