Adrian Vasilescu, advisor to Mugur Isarescu, BNR Governor, said that the National Bank is requesting that prudential and marketing activities of commercial banks be separated, and that a compromise is out of the question.
The Board of Directors of the Romanian Banking Association (ARB) plans to issue a public statement. Bank experts met Friday to discuss the technical aspects of the project launched by BNR. According to the new rules, when granting a loan, banks must consider at least 20 percent higher income than that earned in the preceding year.
BNR is trying to eliminate a practice by bank clients who increase their income in order to obtain larger loans.
