BNR requested one more bank raise its capital

In most cases, the contribution of shareholders to the capital of banks represents voluntary measures. However, some increases are made at the request of BNR’s Surveillance Department.

“The volume of non-performing loans in this case is below €1 million. This is more a safety measure. We act when the trend becomes visible, not when the phenomenon turns critical,” said Nicolae Cinteza, Director of the Surveillance Department of the central bank.

The share capital of banks amounts to €3.3 billion at the end of this year’s first nine months, an 11 percent annual increase, considering that the value of granted loans reached €52.7 bln.

The fact that banks are currently interested in increasing their market share continues to lead to a deterioration of their solvency indicator, which dropped to 11.85 percent at the end of this year’s first three quarters, considering that the minimum allowed threshold is 8 percent.
