The first such contracts to be traded on the stock exchange will be with shares of Banca Transilvania, the five financial investment companies (SIF), Transelectrica and Petrom, according to stock exchange representatives. BVB will also launch futures on leu/euro and leu/dollar.

The National Securities Commission (CNVM) approved futures on shares contracts on Bucharest’s bourse at the end of last week. The final price for these derivative financial instruments will be calculated on the basis of the average price correlated with the volume of transactions on the regulated market on the last trading day, according to CNVM.

Last week, BVB’s Board of Directors also approved the specifications for the futures contract for shares issued by the national natural gas transport company, Transgaz Medias. “The main preoccupation of the bourse is the listing of Erste Bank on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. Following this listing, BVB will concentrate on futures trading. We estimate that these will be available for trading on BVB at the end of February or the beginning March,” according to a statement by sources within BVB.
