CEC currently has 1,392 units, of the 1,410 it had last year. "Most of the units we closed were in areas without prosperous business or consistent activities," CEC spokesperson Georgia Radu told Business Standard.
Third place goes to BCR, falling back one place, even though it inaugurated 100 new units last year, reaching 510 branches and agencies.
Since the beginning of the year, BCR has opened 30 of 150 business locations it planned to open this year. Fourth and fifth place go to Banca Transilvania's network (389 units) and Raiffeisen (336 units).
Units
The total Romanian banking network increased in 2006 by some 1,000 branches and agencies, up to some 4,346 units, with the expansion rhythm of banking institutions twice as high as in 2005.
