During the session, shares of the second-largest Romanian bank reached RON 30.1 (€9.41), the highest value ever for BRD stocks. Yesterday's quotation was 6.07 percent higher than that on Tuesday's session, as BRD shares were the most traded on the market, with operations totaling more than €5 million. BRD shares appreciated 50 percent in just one month. In the past five years, BRD's market value rose 20 times. In yesterday's session alone the bank's market capitalization rose by €370 million.
The rise comes on the heels of Monday's posting of good BRD Groupe Société Générale financial results of €133 million worth of net income in H1 2007, up 32 percent year-on-year.
Banca Transilvania also posted a 35 percent rise in profits, to €25.4 million in the first half of 2007. The bank's shares rose on BVB yesterday and were ranked second in terms of top most traded stocks, after BRD shares. Banca Transilvaniats capitalization rose 2.14 percent, following transactions worth €3.11 million. The two banks accounted for 35.63 percent of BVB's liquidity.
The evolution of a third bank listed on BVB, Banca Carpatica, was less strong, increasing a mere 0.89 percent compared to Tuesday's session.
