Bucharest is ahead of Cluj-Napoca in terms of investments and salaries

The largest companies in the domestic economy are operating in fields such as oil, retail, and telecom. The highest turnovers in these sectors are posted by companies based in Bucharest. The headquarters of Petrom, Rompetrol, Metro, Orange, and Vodafone, all listed as top ten players on the Romanian market in terms of net sales, are in Bucharest.

MOL Romania, Euro GSM, Mechel Campia Turzii, Terapia, and EWV Holding are some of the largest Cluj-based companies. Of these, only MOL is included in the top 50 largest companies on the local market.

According to a study conducted by the Kienbaum executive search company, employees working in Bucharest earn twice as much in salary as their counterparts working in the Western region of Romania. The average gross monthly salary of a Bucharest employee is some €1,000.

Bucharest ranks first in top cities with most companies (37) planning employee layoffs, according to the National Employment Agency (ANOFM), while Cluj-Napoca ranks fifth, with 23 companies.
