Bucharest Stock Exchange boost following foreign investments

The foreign capital net inflow on BVB and on the Rasdaq market was 9.8 times higher year-on-year, up to €297 million. In the first semester of 2006, foreign capital inflow amounted to €30.3 million.

Foreign investors' operations on the local stock exchange resulted in significant increase of quotations. The benchmark BET index exceeded, after 10 years since the BVB was founded, the psychological 10,000 points threshold, and is currently 24.35 percent higher compared with the beginning of 2007.

"This is one of the best times for the Romanian capital market, since its creation. We have witnessed index rises in 2002 and 2004, but they happened in the context of much lower liquidity," according to brokerage company Intercapital Invest Manager, Razvan Pasol, for Business Standard.

Non-residents bought share packages totaling €966 million, 13 percent more than during the entire 2006 (€845 million). Share sales however decreased to €669 million from the €676 million at the end of 2006.

Local investors' purchases amounted to €1.15 billion in the first semester of 2007, while the sales totaled €1.44 billion. In 2006, acquisitions amounted to €1.95 billion, and sales, to €2.12 billion.
