Burci is expecting a balanced exchange rate in 2009

“We are exporters, and it is in our best interest for the euro to appreciate, but only to a certain extent. Eventually, the leu must gain strength,” Burci told Business Standard.

The group’s most important countries for export at present include Germany, Austria, France, and Switzerland.

“We are approaching a €500 million turnover this year, much higher than in 2007. But this increase will not continue in 2009,” said Burci, adding that a drop in the freight railway transport industry will mark the local market.

Referring to Romania’s economic status in 2009, the businessman thinks the country will register a low growth rate. “I do not know we will go into recession in 2009, because this all depends on what happens in the world.”
