“This year, we aim to increase income above €1.3 billion,” the company’s CEO, Richard Moat, told Business Standard.
According to a report on the telecom market by 30 June 2007 by the National Regulatory Authority for Communications (ANRCTI), Orange Romania had some 970,000 corporate clients, 11 percent of the company’s total clients at the time. In the first quarter of 2008, Orange Romania announced it exceeded the 10 million client threshold.
The report also shows that Orange Romania was market leader on the mobile services market by June 30, with 44 percent in market share. Vodafone Romania ranked second, with 38 percent.
Furthermore, according to ANRCTI, the local telecom market registered some 2.2 million corporate clients. Vodafone Romania had some 394,000 such clients, less than half that of Orange’s 970,000 business clients. The remainder was shared between Telemobil, operator of the Zapp network, and Cosmote Romania, controlled by Greek group OTE.
“Competition on the business market is tough, because there are three major players. On the prepay segment, our main competitor is Cosmote and on the business client market the main competitor is Vodafone. The competition with Vodafone increased in 2007, and I think it will continue this year,” Moat said.
Business clients made up 30% of Orange business
