Ghita paid up to €1 million for Rotherfield, a price he considers to be “not very high.” The businessman controls Podgoriile Tohani company, that has some 300 hectares of vineyards, and indicated that he needs the wine producing company for his Tohani wineyard.
Dumitru Varga, General Manager of Tohani, said that Ghita has taken over the two Rotherfield brands registered in Romania, North Ridge and Carpathian Flower, and one brand registered in the United Kingdom.
The Romanian wine market is estimated to be worth some €450 mln. Main competitors are Murfatlar, Cotnari, Jidvei and Vincon.
