BVB indexes subject to the sharpest declines in Europe
Stocks of all major companies plunged. In the case of oil company Petrom and lender BRD - Groupe Societe Generale, the two largest companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), shares dropped 20-30 percent.

The financial investment companies (SIF) also lost an average 23 percent in their quotation.

The most significant decline was registered in January, while February was mostly a month of stagnation. Even without significant losses in February, however, the losses on BVB exceeded those on other European stock markets.
An average decline of 20 percent was registered in Greece, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Turkey. The largest markets in the Central and Eastern European area, Poland and Czech Republic, posetd losses worth some 14-15 percent.
