On the financial investment companies (SIF) segment, the decline was even higher, as the BET-FI index plunged as much as 13.1 percent.
Amid low liquidity, only €0.5 million, most deals were made with shares of SIF Moldova and Petrom, Romania's largest company.
The decline is in line with international capital markets. The Nikkei index of Tokyo Stock Exchange had dropped by 6.3 percent, the worst decline in the past 26 years.
The session resumed half an hour later, but indexes were still declining, as the shares of listed company had no buyers. At 11.40 am, the BET index was down 9.4 percent, while BET-FI dropped 13.2 percent. The most severe decline was registered by the energy companies, as their BET-NG index was down 13.6 percent.
Total liquidity amounted to €1.3 million.
